BEFORE THERE WAS COPPER...THERE WAS STONE

Meet Malachite

Malachite is a naturally occurring mineral that contains copper. Chemically, it's a copper carbonate hydroxide, and copper chemistry is responsible for its striking green color.

Ancient Egyptians used malachite as a green pigment and in preparations around the eyes. The evidence establishes the historical use—but doesn't prove that Egyptians understood copper's effects in the way modern chemistry and medicine do.
